RHSV : Rural High School Visit
Rural High School Visits (RHSVs) are an integral and rewarding activity that can be undertaken by any WILDFIRE member. A RHSV involves either a group of students or individuals visiting rural high schools in order to promote health careers to the students in years 8-12. During a visit WILDFIRE members may discuss such topics as the range of health careers available, how to choose subjects in order to get into such health courses, stress management and other lifestyle issues related to high school study as well as how to survive having to move away to study. Other fun activities such as taking blood pressures, plastering and playing with medical equipment are also included. Members of other Victorian rural health clubs such as OUTLOOK (Melb), NOMAD (Deakin) and LARHC (Latrobe) may also be involved with a WILDFIRE RHSV. Students from all health courses regardless of whether or not they went to a rural high school are encouraged to attend a RHSV. Currently WILDFIRE is organising visits for both the Gippsland and Bendigo-Mildura regions for 2009. Any students wishing to be involved in WILDFIRE’s RHSV program this year are encouraged to email either Sam wildfire.nrhsn@gmail.com or Lana (wildfire.membership@gmail.com), with students who are from a rural area and would like to return to their high school strongly encouraged to do so. For more information please see the NRHSN RHSV website www.nrhsn-rhsv.org.au.
