Graphic design, layout and Monash University brandingMonash University branded and non-branded graphic design is available for posters and other published materials such as:
We offer Monash branding layout, design and advice for all types of print material. We can also offer you advice on Monash brand requirements and Editorial Style Guide requirements. Come in and discuss your requirements with us and we will be happy to help. Supplying contentIt is best to supply us with Word files which have not been formatted (eg. no CAPS or layout using Tabs) as we first have to remove this formatting and it adds time to the job. Headings may be bolded or made in a larger size so that they are distinguishable. ImagesImages should be supplied separately and not inside Word files if possible. Images should be high enough resolution to be used (see FAQ page). Graphs and other data should be the best quality possible. TemplatesWe will generally pick the most appropriate template for the job (ie. undergraduate or postgraduate publications, report covers, invitations, co-branded documents - all have different templates). If the nature of the publication may be unclear (ie. whether the publication is postgraduate, or whether it is Monash or faculty level branding) please let us know when submitting a job as changing templates later may take up unecessary time. ProofsAll jobs will have a proof which needs to be approved before final files are created/printed. We will usually put a watermark proof number when sending pdf proofs so that changes can be identified and files are clearly distinguishable. It is also to avoid confusion as to which file is final or most recent. Files will also be password protected to avoid any editing or manipulating, but will be openable and printable at medium resolution. If you have different requirements please let us know. If you would like a final electronic version of the pdf, please let us know in the job. CertificatesWe can design and print certificates using the branded templates. For high-volume or repeated certificates, it is possible to set up a Data Merge template which references data from an excel file (eg. name, department) and imputs it into fields within a previously created certificate template. This is a very quick and efficient way of creating large-volume certificates. Please call us to find out how this can be achieved. Branding guidelines and Editorial Style GuideMonash University has a set of specific guidelines for marketing and other published materials which unify and define Monash on a national and international level. All material relating to Monash University and using the logo must be branded following these guidelines. This includes both the visual and written style. Branding includes colour schemes, different types of document templates based on what the document is, exact placement of elements and logos, measurements for elements and logos, allowances for expansion of brand to include co-branding, correct use of images and text, and general look and feel of the Monash brand style. The Monash Editorial Style Guide includes preferred and correct terminology for written content as recognised by Monash which must be adhered to when writing course brochures and other publication material. Both the Brand Guidelines and the Monash Editorial Style Guide are available on the web for Monash staff. For further information and templates, contact Advancement, who are the Monash University area responsible for development and implementation of the Monash brand.
