Installing, Updating Sophos

  1. Make sure you are logged into Novell. If you are unsure, log out of the computer, and then log back in again, making sure you don't tick "Workstation Only".
  2. Click "Start" then click "Run".

    For Windows 95/98/ME: enter "command", then click "OK"
    For Windows 2000/XP: enter "cmd", then click "OK"
  3. Type "Z:\updcheck"

    If the words "Update required" appear, please follow the steps below.
    If the words "No update required" appear, then your version of Sophos is up to date and you do not need to follow the instructions below.
  4. Click "Start", then click "Run"
    Type "t:\itm\nw6-tools\sophos.bat"
    (If you see a Sophos Removal window then click Next, click Close and click Finish).
  5. The installation will now start. Various messages will scroll quickly down the command windows. Once you see the message "Press any key to continue", press the Enter key. Then close the command window.
  6. Nothing will appear to happen, however after a few minutes another window will appear in the bottom right hand corner of your screen, labelled "Sophos Anti Virus". Once it disappears, Sophos is installed.

Configure and Run Sophos

  1. Click "Start", "Programs", "Sophos Anti-Virus", then "Sophos Anti-Virus";
  2. Once Sophos opens, click "Options", "Configurations"
    On the Mode tab -
    • Set "Scanning Level" to "Full"
    • Tick "Scan inside archive files"
    • Tick "Include Macintosh viruses"
    • Tick "Scan mailboxes"
    On the Action Tab -
    • Tick "Disinfect boot sectors"
    • Tick "Disinfect documents"
    • Tick "Disinfect programs"
    • Tick "Disinfect mailboxes"
    • Tick "Infected files" and select "Delete"
    • Click "OK"

      Sophos is now installed and configured; you will now be protected by Sophos.

  3. To run a manual scan of your computer:
    • Select "Local hard drives" under Path column so that the green light is on.
    • Click "Go" to begin scan.
  4. To run a manual scan of a particular area:
    • Click the "Add" button
    • Select "All"
    • Tick "Subfolders"
    • Click "Browse" to select the folder you want to scan, and then "OK".
    • Select the new path you just created so that the green light is on.
    • Click "GO" to begin scan.
