Patches/Utilities

  • Spellchecker Dictionary

    You can download an Australian Dictionary (to replace the default US-English one): http://dictionaries.mozdev.org/installation.html
    To install: 1.
    1. Download the dictionary you want to install (right-click, Save Link to Disk...).
    2. In Mozilla Thunderbird go to Tools / Extensions and click Install. Select the dictionary you downloaded and click Open.
  • Configuring Thunderbird to use the Monash Directory Service:

    To enable Mozilla to auto-look up Monash e-mail addresses as you type, you must setup the Monash Directory service.
  • To do this, Open Thunderbird:

    1. Go to Tools > Options and select Composition
    2. Under Addressing select Local Address Books and Directory Server:
    3. Press the Edit Directories button, and select ADD
    4. In the Directory Server Properties window, fill in the fields as shown below and press OK
    5. Directory Server Properties

      Name: Monash Directory Service
      Hostname: directory.monash.edu.au
      Base DN: o=Monash University, c=AU
      Port Number: 389
    6. Press OK again to close the Options window.

    The Monash Address Book account should now be set up.

  • Configuring your Monash email account

    1. For the Mozilla broswer, select the Window / Mail & Newsgroups menu.
    2. Select the Email Account radio button and continue with the wizard using the following settings:
      • Your Name: < Your Name>
      • Email Addess: < Your Email Address>
      • Type of Incoming Server: IMAP
      • Incoming Server: mail.monash.edu.au
      • User Name: <Your Authcate User Name>
      • Account Name: <Leave Default Entry>
  • Import Netscape Local Mail Folders

    1. Open Mozilla Mail and Select Tools -> Import
    2. Select Netscape Communicator 4.x
    3. Select the relevant Netscape Profile
  • Import Netscape address books
    1. Run Communicator 4.x or Netscape 7.x and export your Personal Address Book as an LDIF file.
    2. File > Export
    3. Type in an appropriate filename, select 'Save as type:' as LDIF (*.ldif) and click 'save'
    4. Open Mozilla and import the LDIF file into Address Book
    5. In your address book window, select Tools /Import
    6. Select Address Books and Click Next
    7. Select Text file (LDIF, .tab, .csv, .txt)
    8. Find file and select open
    You must do this for each Netscape Address Book.
