Monash University has an agreement with Microsoft covering the licensing
of Microsoft products at Monash. The agreement is called the CAUDIT
Agreement since it was negotiated by the Directors of Australian University
IT service organisations who form 'CAUDIT'.
Monash's CAUDIT agreement is effectively in two parts:
- A Microsoft Enterprise agreement, granting to
certain Monash staff and enrolled students to use a group of Microsoft
products listed below and;
- Microsoft Select agreement which allows Monash's
faculties, departments, schools, divisions, units and subsidiaries to
acquire Microsoft products (additional to the group of products licensed
under the Enterprise agreement) at the best educational discounted prices.
-
- Microsoft Office Professional Edition (PC or Macintosh edition)
- Microsoft Windows 32-bit operating system Upgrade
Staff/Researchers
are reminded that if they want to have their PCs upgraded to Windows XP
Professional under the Microsoft - (CAUDIT) Campus Agreement, they must
buy a computer with an operating system. Monash cannot install a new
Operating System on your computer, we can only UPGRADE from a previous
version of Windows (eg XP Home).

Under Microsoft’s ‘work-at-home’ right, staff
members of Monash University are licensed to install and use one copy of
CAUDIT software on a home computer, for work-related purposes only.
- acquire work-at-home CD-ROM sets – i.e. media (called
by Microsoft "student media" – but students are
not permitted to use CAUDIT softwar’ at home, nor are they
permitted access to "student media", which is for
staff work-at-home use only), or
- arrange for manual installation of the CAUDIT software on
their home computer by authorised staff of Monash University
at a central location under the control of Monash University.
Therefore, to have Microsoft software installed on your work or
home PC, either:
- Contact your local IT representative or log a job via the
IT JobDesk!
- Purchase the 'work-at-home' Microsoft media via the ITSS Software
Purchase page: http://itm.med.monash.edu.au/itss/software/buy.cfm
-
If the hospital provides the hardware for use by Monash staff or
students, you cannot install Microsoft Desktop Software under our CAUDIT
agreement on these machines.
Our CAUDIT agreement requires that MS desktop software be installed on
"qualified desktops" - which are machines owned or leased
by Monash University.
However, Monash can buy Microsoft desktop software under
our MS Academic Select agreement (see below) and
load and use it on machines provided by the hospital.
Please note that only Monash staff/students
may use the desktop software.
-
Monash University and its affiliates may purchase licences for other Microsoft
products (such as server licences, applications software (such as Visio
or Project) etc.) through the Academic Select agreement. An amendment to
the standard Academic Select agreement removes the requirement for targets,
milestones and forecasts. The licences acquired under a Select agreement
are perpetual licences.
