Cell Culture Laboratory
Summary
The Cell Culture Laboratory is supervised by Joanne Paddle-Ledinek. The main areas of study involve tissue culture of skin cells (keratinocytes) and cartilage cells (chondrocytes).
The development of these techniques will help in the current clinical application of keratinocyte grafts for the patient with severe burns. Chondrocytes are being grown in the laboratory and are applied to defects in the articular cartilage in the knee joint. The laboratory technique and clinical outcomes in these patients are being evaluated.
The application of cultured epithelial cells to evaluate cytotoxic and proliferative properties of chemical agents and wound dressings.
MycoMonash Test: PCR-based diagnostic test for the detection of Mycoplasma contamination of cell cultures.
