Year 1 and 2 Rural Placement - Sale

Site Description

Sale is situated on the Thompson River in the heart of Central Gippsland, has a population of approximately 14,500 and is one of the major centres in the Gippsland Shire. It is approximately 215kms from Melbourne and boasts proximity to the ski fields of Mt Hotham, the sands of the Ninety Mile beach and walks in the untainted rainforest of the Tarra-Bulga National Park, one of many parks in the area.  Sale itself offers great opportunities for sporting and cultural activities, wining and dining and has a state of the art entertainment centre which hosts productions from both Melbourne and local artists.

It is home to an abundance of wildlife on the Sale Common refuge and boardwalk, the historic Swing Bridge and the RAAF Roulettes.

The climate in Sale has the ideal conditions to pursue both winter and summer sports.

What is great about this site?

The program itself offers an opportunity to get really involved in a wide variety of rural medicine activities including indigenous health, district nursing and other allied health areas, and in the hospital of the Central Gippsland Health Service. The friendly people and the beautiful natural environment are an added bonus to what is the perfect place to get a taste of rural medicine.

Accommodation

The accommodation is in self contained cabins of up to 4 people, at the Sale Visitors Centre on the edge of Sale.

Costs

The University will cover costs of travel and accommodation. A small food allowance is supplied.
