Rural Placement - Bendigo

Students will be based in Bendigo and will visit health services in Beechworth, Cohuna, Colac, Corowa, Echuca, Horsham, Kyneton, Swan Hill

Site Description

Bendigo is a town of over 90, 000 people and is located in Central Victoria 150km North West of Melbourne or 1 ½ - 2 hours drive from Melbourne.

What to bring for  Year 1 & 2 Rural Placements 

  • Luggage (Only one small soft piece of luggage for 1st years as luggage space is limited)
  • Smart/casual clothes for Health Service Visits
  • Warm waterproof jacket and sturdy comfortable shoes for farm visit.
  • Student ID badges and photo ID on lanyard.
  • Personal Medication (eg. Asthma pump, allergy medication, insulin.)
  • Student Study Guide, stationery and notepaper.

Costs for Year 1 Rural Placement

Accommodation, train travel and transport around the site will be paid for.

All students are responsible for buying/organising their own meals for the duration of the placements. Self Catering will enable students to take responsibility for their own dietary requirements. Each site is located in a town with sufficient supermarkets and food stores. Please make sure you purchase any special dietary requirements before you reach your rural destination.

Costs for Year 2 Rural Placement

Accommodation will be paid for. 2nd Year students who choose to drive their own vehicle may be reimbursed at 15 cents per kilometre. Refer to Travel section.

Accommodation will be pre-booked and paid for you.

Travel for Year 1 Rural Placement

Please note that travel arrangements will be made for you.  All students are expected to travel together. Private transport cannot be used to get you to and from the site, or around the site. You will be advised about train or other transport arrangements to get you to your site at the pre-brief. Hire cars, mini-buses and taxies have been organised to transport you around the site.

Travel for Year 2 Rural Placement

Students are required to transport themselves to the site of their rural attachment either by driving their own vehicle, car pooling or by public transport, Students who choose to drive their own vehicles will be paid 15 cents per kilometre for the return trip from Melbourne.  Students will also be reimbursed at a rate of 15 cents per kilometre for essential, study related travel around their rural site during the two week block.  Placement coordinators at each site will have travel claim forms and they will need to be submitted and signed on site.

Please advise your sites Student Placement Coordinator if you change your travel arrangements after completing the ‘Consent & Information Form’

Any accident that may occur while driving your own vehicle to/from or around your rural site is to be covered by TAC and your own vehicle insurance policy.
