Site Description

East Gippsland features wonderful coastline scenery, the Gippsland Lakes and river system, breath-taking mountain country and extensive parks and forests. A population of around 40,000 people reside in the East Gippsland Shire; over 11,000 of these reside in the major commercial centre of Bairnsdale. The area has a mild seaside climate for the majority of the year with snow in the high country during winter and hot days at the beach during summer. Agriculture, horticulture, fishing and forestry are the backbone of the region, with tourism one of the most important industries across this corner of Victoria.

Highlights of the area are:  food and wine trails, lakes and rivers, Snowy River Country, Croajingolong and wilderness coast,  fishing and boating, snow in the high country, beaches, sport and recreation.
