What's a placement in Mildura like?
What's a placement in Gippsland like?
All medical students must spend at least four weeks in a rural location during the course of their degree. Monash Rural Health (the school) coordinates rural placements for students from the Central Medical School, graduate entry medical program and Extended Rural Cohort in Years 2A, 3B, 4C and 5D through the Rural Education Program Office which is based at Monash University, Clayton Campus.
Medical clinical rural placements are available across the North West and South East region of Victoria. The school has four clinical academic centres in regional areas: Mildura, Bendigo, Warragul, Traralgon, Sale, Bairnsdale and Leongatha. Each clinical training site is attached to a regional hospital and partners with a range of community-based health services. Each clinical training site has a simulated learning environment and on-site library access.
Generally, students live in fully-furnished Monash accommodation close to their clinical academic site or community placement. Rent is subsidised by the University and includes utilities (capped) and high-speed internet.
South-east and north-west opportunities.
The school's south-east region includes the Warragul, Traralgon, Sale, Bairnsdale and Leongatha sites. Places are open to students from the direct entry and graduate entry streams of the medical program.
The north-west region includes the Mildura and Bendigo clinical training sites. Most places are taken up by Extended Rural Cohort students. However, a limited number of placements are available each year for medical students from other streams.
