Postgraduate Programs

At MUDRIH we are pleased to be part of the development of an exciting new postgraduate course for health professionals. Our commitment is to provide health professionals/ medical practitioners with high quality post graduate education which will enhance their skills and knowledge of rural health issues and equip them to contribute positively to building the health of rural communities, families and individuals, in addition to the development of their professions.

In 2009 the Master of Health Sciences has become available for all health professionals A suite of streams is now available including, Health Informatics, Health Promotion, Occupational Therapy, Nutrition and Dietietics and Radiation Therapy.

Important note: Previous postgraduate programs, Master of Rural Health, Graduate Diploma of Rural Health and Graduate Certificate in Rural Health have been discontinued since 2007. Students completing these programs should refer to the archived handbook entry for the year in which they commenced their course available at Monash University Handbooks.

MASTER OF HEALTH SCIENCES (RURAL STREAM)

At MUDRIH we provide the rural stream of the Master of Health Sciences (M Hlth Sc). This flexible postgraduate program can be tailored to fit the career aspirations of all health professionals interested in Rural Health. This course prepares medical and health science practitioners for advanced practice in general and specialist practice with core units focused on rural issues and/or and Indigenous issues and on research for health professionals.

Students are now able to apply for the rural health stream of study within the M. Hlth Sc program.

Course structure

The Master of Health Sciences (Rural Stream) is being offered primarily via off-campus learning and can be completed in one of two ways:


  1. Course work units only, with core units (24 credit points) and electives adding to a total of 72 points.

  2. Combination of coursework units (24 credit points) and project or minor thesis of 15,000 words (24 credit points) with electives adding to a total of 72 points.
