School of Rural Health

The School of Rural Health at Monash University is one of eight Schools in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. With its vision of improving rural health, the School has contributed successfully to the development of rural health policy, raising the profile of rural health practice, facilitating research into rural health issues, establishing undergraduate and postgraduate education for rural health practice and building strong rural health networks. The School of Rural Health now encompasses Regional Clinical Schools in East Gippsland, Traralgon, Bendigo and Mildura and the Monash University Department of Rural and Indigenous Health.

Higher degree research students play a vital role in the academic life of universities. Not only do they pursue cutting-edge knowledge in their fields, but importantly they provide a critical link between undergraduate education, academic staff, clinicians, health services and community organisations. They are the next generation of academic research leaders whose work will inform education, practice, policies and programs.

Department of Rural and Indigenous Health

The Monash University Department of Rural and Indigenous Health (MUDRIH) is based in Moe in Gippsland but is also committed to working across Victoria, especially in Mildura and East Gippsland. MUDRIH as a UDRH has the task of improving the health of rural people both in its operating area and beyond. It does this, in the main, through the provision of education, research and support to rural health professionals and students throughout their careers. As a UDRH our emphasis is on working with Nursing, Allied Health and Indigenous Health practitioners and professionals. We are committed to the development of educational and research programs that focus on these disciplines and that foster interprofessional education, research and practice.
