ANDREA REUPERT (B.Arts, Dip.Ed, Grad.Dip.Couns.Psych, Dip.Clin.Hypnosis, PhD) is a senior lecturer at the Department of Rural and Indigenous Health, School of Rural Health, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University. Prior to this she was a lecturer at the School of Education at Charles Sturt University, in Wagga Wagga, NSW.

Andrea is a therapist, teacher and supervisor. Previously, she held a position as a guidance officer and then senior guidance officer in the public education system, in Victoria and Queensland, working with children aged 0-18, and their families, teachers and other associated professionals. Andrea has also worked in general private practice, with various client groups and organizations including prisons, unemployment agencies and welfare departments. Andrea is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, and former chair of the Riverina branch of the Australian Psychological Society. She has five degrees in education and psychology. Her PhD focused on therapists and the ways in which they might work most effectively with therapists, professionally and personally.

She has authored or co-authored over thirty publications in a variety of academic and professional forums and has been associated with more than two hundred thousand dollars worth of research grants. Dr. Reupert has researched and written in the areas of therapy, mental health, workforce issues, use of self and vulnerable families. She has national and international reputations in her specialized area of parental mental illness and has published widely in this area.

Research interests

Current research focuses on vulnerable families with a specific focus on:

  • Parental mental health and outcomes for children
  • Developing effective support structures and interventions for vulnerable families;
  • Higher education teaching and learning;
  • Whole school approaches to welfare and behaviour management.
