Southern Synergy
Overview of the Centre
Southern Synergy is part of the School of Psychology, Psychiatry and Psychological Medicine (Monash University) and is based at Southern Health Mental Health Services, Dandenong Hospital. The centre is dedicated to activities aimed at both teaching/education and research/evaluation.
Statement of purpose
The centre exists:
- To champion research, knowledge and understanding in mental health care
Goals and functions of Southern Synergy
The goals of Southern Synergy are:
- to encourage the development of research activities relevant to service delivery within the adult services of the Mental Health Program, Southern Health,
- to foster and facilitate the translation of research outcomes into clinical practice within Southern Health adult mental services and within the broader mental health service sector,
- to provide consultation and advice to staff within the Mental Health Program to assist in the development of research and evaluation strategies and evidence-based practice initiatives,
- and to promote the role and profile of Southern Health in Psychiatry Research through publications and presentations at conferences and related forums.
The functions of Southern Synergy in relation to Teaching and Education include:
- the development and co-ordination of teaching activities in psychiatry at Southern Health in accord with the requirements of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University,
- the provision of advice to the Head, School of Psychiatry and Psychological Medicine, and the Department of Psychological Medicine, Monash University, on issues relating to education at both the undergraduate and post-graduate levels,
- ensuring that training opportunities within the Mental Health Program, Southern Health are expanded and promoted,
- and securing continued retention of the accredited training status of the Mental Health Program.
Reports
Southern Synergy is presently preparing its three yearly review during
2008. During this time we are collating all documentation for this full
review and will publish this report on this website which will
incorporate the information for the 2007 Annual Report.
