Leadership Development Project

Stage 1 - Organisational Diagnosis

Aims

Monash University was contracted by GWA International Limited in April 2004 to conduct an organisational diagnosis. The primary aims of this project were to:

  • Examine leadership capability and practices within each business unit
  • Evaluate the climate and culture of each business to support innovation and readiness to implement a comprehensive fully integrated leadership development and talent management program.
  • Examine selection, development and performance management practices within each business unit

Outcomes

From a consulting perspective, results of the organisational diagnostic detailed:

  • the climate for identification, development and retention of leadership talent within each business unit and the overall organisation
  • the current leadership capability and development areas
  • a set of contextually relevant leadership capabilities
  • a recommended strategy and tools to identify and develop future leaders

From a research perspective, this organizational diagnosis provides a baseline measure for planned longitudinal research associated with this project. To date, the reports generated from this data include:

  • Identify a pool of future leaders and develop a succession strategy
  • Develop and implement a performance management system
  • Establish and implement a mentoring program
  • Design and implement leadership development and skills training programs
  • Design a knowledge management system to hold and report on leadership and research data

Outcomes

From a consulting perspective, this project is currently underway and expected to be completed by December 2006.

The research associated with this project is ongoing. Publications can be accessed on this website when available.
