The Laboratories

The music psychology facilities consist of specialized equipment for testing responses to auditory stimuli in both humans and animals. The human music laboratory is situated within the Sleep Laboratory at the Caulfield campus of the school. This provides a perfect environment for studying people's responses to music since the laboratory is a soundproofed, light-controlled setting furnished for comfortable and natural listening. In addition to having facilities for obtaining a range of physiological measurements (such as heart rate, muscle tension, skin temperature and arousal hormones), the laboratory also has electroencephalography equipment enabling measurement of brain wave activity. The animal laboratories are located at the Clayton campus within the Animal House, and are suitable for various behavioural tests of animal preference and cognitive performance.
