Our research is primarily concerned with circadian rhythms, controlled by the internal biological clock that regulates sleep and waking. We are also interested in environmental factors that affect circadian rhythms (e.g. light), and the effects of restricted sleep on neurobehavioural functioning. Research projects may involve young adults with normal sleep patterns, the elderly, people with sleep disorders such as insomnia, or shift workers.
Current Research Projects
- Effects of sleep restriction on alertness and neurobehavioural performance
- Acute Alerting Effects of Daytime Exposure to Light
- Circadian Phase Assessment in Chronic Insomnia and Major Depression
- Managing and Treating Fatigue and Sleep Disturbance Following Traumatic Brain Injury
- Mood and Sleep-Wake Changes Following Administration of MDMA (‘Ecstasy’)
- Identification of Sleep Disorders in General Practice
