Clinical Trials Research Group - Research Activities

Research activities

The Clinical Trials Research Group conducts research in the field of mental health. The majority of our research involves clinical trials of mental health therapies. One aspect of our work involves investigator-initiated studies of various different aspects of clinical mental health. Meanwhile, other studies are conducted in conjunction with pharmaceutical companies looking at the psychopharmacology and biological basis of various different psychiatric conditions in developing new and more suitable medication. We are always interested in hearing from people who would like to participate in our studies, and we accept referrals from clinicians. Our current trials are listed below; please feel free to contact us for more information.

Current projects include:

  • A study into the effects of Estrogen on woman with Schizophrenia
  • A trial of a sustained-release version of a current twice-daily antipsychotic treatment for people with schizophrenia
  • A trial of a new long-acting depot antipsychotic for people with schizophrenia
  • An evaluation of the patterns of antipsychotic usage in psychiatric inpatient services in comparison to published guidelines

Collaborations

Under the direction of Associate Professor Saji Damodoran, the Clinical Trials Research Group conducts studies in collaboration with psychiatrists and clinicians in the mental health departments of Southern Health. We are eager to establish further collaborations for suitable studies.

New Research

We would like to welcome enquiries from local professionals into any area of clinical research. Any proposal received will be reviewed carefully and given serious consideration. Areas of future research interest could include providing clinical resources to non-clinical research groups; consumer satisfaction with medication and research; medication adherence and non-drug therapeutic practices. The CTRG is constantly on the lookout for any new and exciting research that will improve the well-being of consumers and the understanding of mental health professionals.

Professionals interested in utilising the CTRG’s resources for conducting research are encouraged to send an email to ctrg@med.monash.edu.au or to telephone the Research Manager, Cath Savage, on 9554 1822.

We look forward to hearing from you.
