The School of Psychology, Psychiatry and Psychological Medicine is unique in Australia in bringing together psychiatrists and psychologists into a successful academic partnership.
As well as teaching-research and research-only staff at the university campuses, several hundred adjunct and casual staff are associated with the school through its affiliated hospitals and community mental health services in South and Eastern Metropolitan Melbourne, and Gippsland and Loddon/Campaspie/Mallee rural regions.
The School places a strong emphasis on research productivity and excellence and is engaged in a wide range of research activities that are characterised by a strong social or clinical relevance.The School's main areas of research are encompassed within Neuroscience and Mental Health, Animal Welfare, Organisational Psychology, and Social Sciences and Health Research. We have particular strengths in the areas of Developmental Psychology and Psychiatry, Forensic Mental Health, Health Psychology and Psychiatry, Neuroscience and Neuropsychology, and Schizophrenia and Depression. The School encourages investigative approaches ranging from laboratory-based research to applied, clinical- or community-based investigations.
We are a nationally recognised leader in Mental Health and Cognitive Neurosciences research.
