Master of Organisational Psychology

(off-campus learning mode)

INFORMATION FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS 2010
NO intake for 2010

Monash University also offers the Master of Organisational Psychology degree in the Off-Campus Learning mode [MOP (OCL)].

Please note: International students are NOT eligible for entry into MOP (OCL).

Why MOP (OCL) at Monash?

Monash University is committed to providing students with flexibility and choice in the structure and delivery of its courses. The delivery of the Master of Organisational Psychology degree in off-campus learning mode is consistent with this commitment.

Monash University is also committed to equity of access and the MOP (OCL) provides equity of access to regional and interstate students who wish to enrol in the Master of Organisational Psychology program at Monash University. The MOP (OCL) program also provides equity of access to local students who may experience difficulty balancing their work and family commitments with the day-time course delivery mode of the on-campus MOP program.

Course Structure

The MOP (OCL) is a four year part-time degree consisting of coursework, supervised practical placements and thesis. The content of the MOP (OCL) is broadly equivalent to that of the MOP program delivered on-campus.

The program has three components:

Coursework 50%
Research thesis 25%
Three supervised placements 25%

Please refer to the DPsych and MOP Information for details.

What's the difference between MOP (OCL) and MOP on-campus?

The primary difference is that students enrolled in the MOP (OCL) do not attend the weekly classes conducted at the Caulfield Campus in Melbourne. Instead, students complete the majority of their study at home or in their office.

MOP (OCL) Course Requirements

  • Students will be required to attend one compulsory four-day on-campus school each semester over the four years of their program. On-campus schools will enrich off-campus learning experiences and enable students to interact with faculty staff and fellow students.
  • Students will require access to a computer with minimum RAM of 32 megabytes (preferably more), a CD Rom drive and ongoing access to email and the internet. This technology is required to facilitate ongoing student communication with faculty staff and fellow students.
  • Students need to carefully consider how they will meet the requirement to complete 125 days of supervised placements.
    • Placements must be supervised by a registered psychologist who is a member of (or is eligible for membership) of the APS College of Organisational Psychologists.
    • Only one placement can be completed at a student's place of employment and only if the placement experience is appropriately supervised and the placement activities are different to the student's usual job-related activities. At least two placements need to be completed in organisations other than the student's usual place of employment.
    • Under some circumstances 'external supervision' can be conducted by registered psychologists external to the organisation where the student's placement activity occurs. Such arrangements need to be negotiated with the Placement Coordinator at Monash. Students must recognise that they or the host placement organisation are required to meet expenses associated with external supervision.
    • Students need to ensure that their placement experiences and documentation satisfy all requirements of the Psychologists’ Board in the state where they intend to register.
