Graduate Diploma in PsychologyInformation for Applicants - 2009Do you already have a degree, and want to study psychology?The Graduate Diploma in Psychology offers graduates a major in psychology which is accredited by the Australian Psychological Society, and permits them to undertake the further training needed to obtain professional qualifications in psychology. By providing knowledge of the major fields in psychology, the Graduate Diploma assists graduate students in making a career change or in determining how psychology may be used in their existing professions. Course StructureThis course requires students to study 10 psychology units. The course structure, objectives, requirements, and the psychology units, are described in the Monash Undergraduate Handbook on the web. Students are advised to check unit pre- and co-requisites when planning their enrolment. Off-campus learning students must complete the required, minimum hours of on-campus weekend school laboratory work for each unit. Admission RequirementsEntry is open to graduates who have completed an undergraduate Bachelors degree in any discipline. Credit ProvisionStudents may be granted credit up to a maximum of the first two years of an undergraduate psychology major for psychology studies completed within the last ten years and accredited by the Australian Psychological Society or the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council. Students must provide a certified copy of their academic transcript/results and unit syllabuses current at the time previous studies were taken. Length of CourseStudents are normally expected to pass all subjects at a given year level before proceeding to the next year level. The minimum time for completion in this manner is three years. Unsatisfactory ProgressStudents who do not pass any subject after two attempts will be liable for exclusion. FeesThe 2009 fee is $1,900 per unit, payable at the beginning of the semester in which the unit is being taken. After enrolment an invoice will be mailed to your postal address. Payment is usually expected within two weeks from the time the invoice is issued. Please note: Students should familiarise themselves with the dates by which requests for refund of fees can be made if they withdraw from the course or from a unit. There are no compulsory amenities fees. Further information is available on the Fees website. Students may be eligible for the Fee-Help. Fee-Help is an interest-free loan facility for Australian residents who are enrolled in fee-paying, postgraduate non-research courses. Fee-Help enables eligible students to obtain a Commonwealth Government loan to pay all or part of their tuition fees. Students will be sent Fee-Help information with their letter of offer and enrolment details. Further information is available from the Fee Help Website.
