Graduate Certificate in Mental Health for Teaching Professions
This course is geared to providing teaching and allied staff both theoretical and practical information on mental health and emotional development together with practical information on the use of such understanding in the classroom and school settings.
The course underlines and supports the central role of the teacher in the development of optimal mental health in the school population.
Course Structure
The certificate year is offered over one year part-time via off-campus learning. Students are required to complete two core units:
MHT0001 Understanding mental development, child to adolescence
MHT0002 Mental health, practical considerations
Successful completion of the Certificate provides eligibility for a second year of study - the Graduate Diploma in Mental Health for Teaching Professions, of which the Certificate provides credit for the first year. This is available off-campus also. The two units that comprise the Diploma are:
MHT0003 - Counselling Techniques for Members of the Teaching Professions
MHT0004 - Organisational & Group Aspects of the School Environment
Assessment
Assessment includes a combination of written essays, coursework participation, occasional special projects and Threaded Discussion Groups (TDG).
