Cognitive and Behavioural Treatment of Problem Gamblers: a Workshop with Professor Robert Ladouceurpresented by The Problem Gambling Research And Treatment CentreMONDAY 24th AUGUST, 2009 VENUE: Monash University Conference Centre, 7th Floor, 40 Collins Street, Melbourne Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an empirically supported intervention with high rates of positive outcomes in the management of problem gambling. During this workshop the focus will be on the clinical applications of our knowledge. Current research findings and clinical approaches pertaining to cognitive behavioural therapy for problem / pathological gambling will be presented. This will be followed by a discussion of the empirical data supporting the use of a cognitive treatment and its efficacy. This workshop has four objectives. Participants will learn:
Role-playing and clinical experiences as suggested by participants will be used to illustrate how to conduct CBT. The issue of the viability of controlled gambling in comparison to abstinence as treatment goal will be discussed This Workshop, which is scheduled from 9.30 to 4.30, includes morning and afternoon tea and lunch.
