Professor Alun Jackson

Professor Alun Jackson is Director of the Problem Gambling Research and Treatment Centre, Graduate School of Education, The University of Melbourne, a Professorial Fellow of the Graduate School of Education, The University of Melbourne, an Adjunct Professor at Peking University, and a Research Fellow of the Centre on Behavioural Health at the University of Hong Kong.

Professor Jackson has been involved in the design and direction of many large-scale gambling-related research programs. He has authored or co-authored 4 books, including Social Work Health and Mental Health Practice, Research and Programs. He has published over 70 journal articles, book chapters, refereed conference proceedings, and research monographs, and over 50 research reports, technical reports, and working papers. He has also been involved in the supervision of nearly 50 higher degrees by research students. Professor Jackson is on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Gambling Issues; and Gambling Research. Professor Jackson was founding Director of Social Work Research at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, and is currently a member of the Victorian Independent Gambling Research Panel.

Professor Jackson is currently a member of the Outcomes Research Reference group of the Commonwealth Department of Family and Community Services Family Relationships Service Program, a board member of Kildonan Child and Family Services, Vice President (Research) for Drummond Street Relationship Centre, a member of university committees such as the Academic Board, University Postgraduate Scholarships Committee, and the Teaching and Learning Quality Assurance Committee. He has also been a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers since 1986.

In recognition of his excellent academic and research achievement, Professor Jackson has received the AIDS Trust of Australia Research Award in 1990 and the VicHealth Primary Health Care Research Award in 2000.
