China Australia Gambling Research and Policy
China has recently established the China Centre for Lottery Studies (CCLS) at Peking University. Professor Alun Jackson from the University of Melbourne and Professor Thomas from Monash have established close relations with CCLS and other Chinese colleagues in gambling research.
Professor Jackson and Thomas are co-directors of the soon to be established Melbourne-Monash Centre for Gambling Treatment Research and Development funded by the Department of Justice. The Centre's brief includes:
- To conduct cutting-edge research into problem gambling treatment approaches
- To develop new clinical practices
- To train new and existing staff working in gambler help services
- To establish a postgraduate qualification in problem gambling treatment
- To conduct a sustained epidemiological study of the various forms of gambling
- To provide training on problem gambling to industry on a commercial basis.
