Ageing and Aged Care Services in China and Australia
The ageing of the populations in Australia and China is an important demographic phenomenon that confronts both countries. The chart below shows projected trends in the percentages of citizens aged, 60 and over, 65 and over and 80 years and over for Australia and China (United Nations, 2005).
Although Australia currently has a higher proportion of older citizens than China, both countries will have very similar percentages of older citizens by 2035.
Healthy ageing is a policy focus in China and Australia and is a key underlining theme of our research program.
