West China School of Public Health is one of the most famous Schools of Public Health in China, Its history can be tracked back to the Public Health Course Program in Xie Huaxi Xiehe College (West China Coordinated College) which was established in 1914. 1936 It was developed to School of Public Health Faculty and was renamed as Public Health Faculty National West China University in 1951. Later it became School of Public Health West China Medical University in 1986. When West China Medical University was merged into Sichuan University in 2000, the School was also renamed as West China School of Public Health Sichuan University.
After more than 90 year’s development, the School is consist of the School home place, Sichuan University West China Fourth Hospital and Sichuan University West China Health Personnel Training Centre, which combines education, research, medical treatment, preventing, health care, personnel training and high tech development. The School has 6 doctoral sites and 9 Master sites which cover all the discipline in prevention medicine.
The School has 268 staff. Among them 75 has high title. The School has more than 1600 students with a great team of famous professors. There are 6 academic leaders in Sichuan Province, 2 young experts with outstanding contribution in Province, and 11 academic leaders in Sichuan Health Bureau. The passed away Professor Chen Zhiqian is world famous expert in public health and the pioneer of primary health care, the originator of rural three level caring net, as well as the founder of China modern health education. He was reputed as the Father of China Public Health.
The School is the originator of the subject of China health pathology. The subject is the School’s leading subject and its academic level is still ranking first in China.
