Journal of Chinese General Practice

Journal of Chinese General Practice (CN 13-1222/RISSN 1007-9572) is the first academic periodical of general medicine in China. The Journal is administered by the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China, and sponsored by the Academic Society of Chinese Hospital Management. Objectives of the Journal are to build platform for studying features and characteristic, tendency and development, issues and challenges of general medicine in China; to publish research findings and dissertations of general medicine; to present clinical researches and clinical experiences of general medicine; and to popularize the theory and knowledge of general medicine in China. More importantly, the Journal is developed as a window for Chinese and international colleagues who engaging experience exchange focus on general practice and community health services.

The Journal ensures its quality through peer review system and sophisticated management editorial committee. The Journal is published fortnightly. It has large information capacity and truly reflects the most recent progress of scientific research, education and clinical practice of general medicine in China. At present this publication has been sorted into the periodical paper statistics source of National Committee of Science and Technology of China, and as the core periodical of Chinese science and technology papers. Meanwhile the Journal is also indexed by Chinese science and technology paper database, biomedicine database, Chinese periodical net, Chinese academic periodical disc version, American Chemistry Digest, Russian Digest and so on, and has become the important periodical source in the field of general medicine that is newly emerging as a second class clinical discipline. In 2000 and 2002, the Journal was awarded as provincial outstanding periodical, and in 2003, was awarded the second prize of technical periodical quality comparison in the appraisal of periodical comparison of the Ministry of Health of China.

Dr. Jieping Wu, vice president of National People's Congress, academician of Academia Science, original Chair of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences made dedication for this publication: Serve for developing General Medicine. Dr. Xinzhong Qian, former Minister of Health also made dedication for this publication: To develop General Medicine, to perfect community service.

The Journal was first published in 1998, changed as a bimonthly issue in 1999, a monthly publication in 2001, and a semimonthly publication in 2004. On the foundation of development of this publication, the Journal coordinated positively with the General Medicine Training Center of the Ministry of Health to promote the training program nationwide and impulse the positive development of this discipline. Journal’s website (http://www.chinagp.net) was built in 2001, and sooner became an unimpeded channel for communication between wider range of editors and readers.

Along with quick development of community health services in China, about 50% hospital doctors will transfer into general practice. General practitioners will become a significant medical professional, which provide primary health care universally and contribute to improvement of accessibility, quality and equity of healthcare to all Chinese. The Journal takes responsibility of involving the development, and serves to policy-makers, academic colleagues, service managers and providers, as well as general community.
