Monash University signed formal agreement with China Capital Medical University

Monash has agreed to jointly pursue research, training and commercial opportunities with China Capital Medical University.

Professor Wang Xiao Min, Vice-President of China Capital Medical University and Professor Richard Larkins, Vice-Chancellor of Monash University signed the co-operation agreement at Clayton this week.

Dr Wang Wei, the Dean of the School of Public Health and Family Medicine accompanied the Vice-President. Co-operation was discussed in the following areas:

  • Successful aging
  • Hospital quality improvement
  • Primary care and the training of Family Medicine doctors
  • Stem cell research
  • Evidence-based medicine

The China Capital Medical University employs 20,000 staff and runs 13 teaching hospitals. They have 4900 medical students. The University hosts a range of national research centres and the only national training centre for family medicine.

Professor Larkins said he was very pleased to welcome the Chinese delegation. "They make a significant contribution to the healthcare system in China and through working more closely with them we can not only share best practice but also identify joint medical research opportunities for both universities." said Professor Richard Larkins, Vice-Chancellor, Monash University.

The Monash team that facilitated the meeting with the China Capital Medical University included Professor Colette Browning, from the Monash Institute of Health Services Research, Professor Shane Thomas, Director of Primary Care Research and Dr Hui Yang, senior research fellow in Primary Care Research.

During his visit, Vice-President Wang also attended the first Australia-China Biomedical Research Conference hosted by Monash University.
