Title: Social Networks of Older People
Joan's PhD research focuses on the relationship between shop visits and older people, using qualitative data such as interviews and observations collected from older people, shop keepers and other sources.
Biography
Joan has been working in residential aged care for over 20 years, initially in lifestyle programs which specialised in programs for dementia sufferers and their families, and later in quality management as an aged care assessor, residential aged care manager and lecturer. Recently Joan has managed the quality systems for the Monash Division of General Practice. Joan has completed a Master of Gerontology which explored the social meaning for the families of younger nursing home residents.
