Associate Professor Danielle Mazza

Danielle

Associate Professor Danielle Mazza  is a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of General Practice at Monash University and author of the textbook “Women’s health in general practice”. Danielle has previously held the positions of Medical Director of Family Planning Victoria, National Director of Quality Assurance and Continuing Education for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the International Medical University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Danielle’s early career research was on the prevalence of domestic violence sexual assault and child sexual abuse in a general practice setting and its relationship to psychotropic drug use by women. She published  one of the first Australian papers looking at the issue of women and violence in a clinical setting, gaining wide media coverage and informing and giving impetus to policy development on women and violence in Australia and overseas.

Her research and presentations have been awarded several national prizes including the Jean Hailes Memorial Prize, the Roger Wurm Award, Frances Hardey Faulding Memorial Fellowship and the Alan Chancellor Memorial Award and internationally the Myriam De Senarclens Award. 

In Feb 2009 she completed a prestigious National Institute of Clinical Studies (NICS) – HCF Foundation Fellowship undertaking implementation research in preventive care in general practice specifically related to preconception care.

She remains in active clinical practice at the Brighton Medical Clinic and the Royal Women’s Hospital.
