8th National Conference of EMERGING RESEARCHERS IN AGEING - ERA 2009 Conference

The Healthy Ageing Research Unit of Monash University was proud to host the 8th National Emerging Researchers in Ageing Conference held on October 22-23 at Rydges on Swanston in Melbourne. The ERA Conference showcases post graduate students research in the field of ageing from a range of disciplines including Nursing, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Gerontology and Pharmacy. This was the first year the Conference had been brought to Melbourne and was the largest ERA Conference to date, with 68 oral presentations, 10 poster presentations and 130 delegates. We were delighted to secure Professor Paul Higgs from University College London as our International Keynote Speaker and Professor Ed Byrne, Monash University Vice-Chancellor, officially opened the Conference. An exciting and popular addition to this year’s Conference was a pre-conference grant writing workshop. Seven prizes were awarded to students for their outstanding presentations, including the Healthy Ageing Research Unit Encouragement Prize for a student in the first year of their research degree and the Inaugural Helen Bartlett Prize for Innovation in Ageing Research. The high standard of presentations, excellent opportunity for networking and diversity of quality research in ageing ensured that ERA 2009 was a tremendous success.
