
Associate Professor Lyn Clearihan

After graduating from Monash University in 1976, Lyn’s career has combined working as a medical practitioner in a small town on the outskirts of Melbourne with a diverse range of interests in medical education and primary care research. As well being one of two principal partners in the practice for over thirty years, Lyn also worked as a medical editor for almost twenty of those years. Initially she joined the Australian Family Physician in 1989 as the Deputy Medical Editor taking over the role of Chief Medical Editor on the retirement of Professor John Murtagh from the role in 1996, a position she held until 2001. Subsequently she was one of three co-editors in chief on the Wonca owned, Asia Pacific Family medicine journal. Her work on this journal has been recognized by a sponsored Award in her name for the best research article published in the journal in the preceding year.
During this time period her interest in medical education involved teaching medical students in general practice as well as working as a clinical tutor in the undergraduate medical course at Monash University. In early 2002 Lyn became involved in vocational training, working for Monash University and the Victorian Metropolitan Alliance (an Australian Regional Training provider) as a medical educator. She assumed the role of Director of Medical Education and Training in the VMA in 2008 for two years, and was subsequently appointed as the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of General practice at Monash University prior to taking over her current role.
Lyn’s research interests have involved her working as the Chair of the GP research working group for the Eastern Ranges Division of general practice during which time she formed their Emergency Taskforce group and developed the pandemic plan for the Division; as well as working on a number of general practice related research projects. Her doctoral thesis was on the impact of editorial decision making on the knowledge base of general practice. Lyn’s recent research involvement has spanned curriculum development and innovation; teaching and learning osteoarthritis management for GP registrars as well as a project on medication use in osteoarthritis. She has published widely with book chapters and educational articles on a wide range of clinical and professional topics Lyn has a long standing involvement in enhancing the standing of the profession through her involvement in a number of professional committees and expert writing groups as well as publishing and running educational courses both nationally and internationally.

Ms Silvia Vogel

Program Manager
After teaching sociology for a number of years, Silvia worked as an Event coordinator for a major ticketing company, during which time she developed an interest in multimedia production and instructional design. Still with an interest in the tertiary education sector, Silvia joined Monash University in 2001 and was the Educational Courseware Manager for the Department of General Practice. During this time, Silvia managed the course materials for the postgraduate Family Medicine and Acupuncture off campus courses for the department. Her role encompassed instructional design, creation, revision and development of educational content for postgraduate and professional development courses. She is also involved in courseware development for funded research projects covering area such as type 2 diabetes, depression, osteoarthritis and cancer. Silvia took up the new position of Program Manager for CEPDU in late 2011.

Ms Caroline Menara

Caroline commenced working for Monash University in 1993 at the Box Hill Hospital campus and has since worked for the Centre for Developmental Disability Health Victoria, and School of Primary Health Care.
Caroline has had extensive experience in the organisation of undergraduate and postgraduate education programs including seminars, courses, conferences and clinical examinations.

Dr George Zaharias
MBBS, MFM, FRACGP
Senior Lecturer, Chief Co-ordinator AMC Clinical Bridging Course
George graduated from Monash University in 1976 and has been a General Practitioner since 1981. His clinical interests include: chronic disease management, care of the elderly and counseling.
In 2000, George completed a Masters Degree in Family Medicine. Following this he has become increasingly involved with medical education. He is a Senior Lecturer at Monash University, being the co-ordinator of the AMC Clinical Bridging course. He is also a Senior Medical Educator with the Victorian Metropolitan Alliance, an organization that provides training for General Practice.

Dr Hung The Nguyen

Senior lecturer, Clinical Education and Professional Development Unit (CEPDU)
Hung is currently a GP in Glen Waverley, a Medical Education Consultant to the Northern Territory General Practice Education Ltd. In addition to his work with CEPDU Hung also tutors in HealthPEER program in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. He is the first Censor for the RACGP National Faculty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health.
Hung’s interest in Indigenous health saw him working in urban, rural and remote Aboriginal communities in primary health care teams. His interest in Multicultural health sees him work across government, corporate and non-government sectors to create interactive and thought provoking personal development opportunities for staff in the area of cultural competence. He advises in the development and delivery of cultural competence education and training to health professional, supervisors and other staff
He is author and co-author to number education resources and articles on Cultural Competency Training, Indigenous Health Training, Cultural Awareness and Safety resources and curriculum statements on Aboriginal and Multicultural health.
He provides his expertise, passion and experience in general practice, Indigenous health, cultural competence, training and education to various State and National committees and boards to further the profession of general practice, education and Indigenous and multicultural health.
He was awarded the RACGP/APHCRI Indigenous Health Award in 2005.
He lives in Melbourne with his wife and 2 children.

Dr Julie Wang
FRACGP MAppEpid MPhil
Lecturer
Dr Julie Wang has experience conducting research projects in primary care settings and projects relating to blood-borne viruses. Her research projects focus on the effective integration of primary and public health care systems. Dr Wang is also a GP in private practice.

Miss Xiaofei Wang (Kico)

Miss Xiaofei Wang (Kico) was employed as a research assistant at the Clinical Education and Professional Development unit in June 2010, working mainly within the Chinese residential general practice training program. Kico has completed a Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, a Master of Public Health (Epidemiology and Biostatistics) from Melbourne University. Kico has been/is involved in the following activities:
- Assistance with organising and facilitating Chinese residential general practice training program 2011 and Primary care managers/ Hospital manager training workshop 2011

Dr Nizar Farjou
Nizar's primary role is to develop a country-specific Monash strategy for educational involvement in the Middle East region, and promote and develop HDR scholarship opportunities from the Middle East. He is involved in developing Faculty policies and guidelines for proactive engagement with leading universities and educational institutions in the region and in developing senior level linkages with key government bodies. Nizar teaches in the IMG clinical bridging course.
