Profile:
Ralph Hampson BSoc Stud (UniSyd), MA (Psycho-social Studies) (UniMelb), MAASW, AFACHSE. Ralph is in the final stage of his PhD research at The University of Melbourne which has focused on the impact of the built environment on the lives of older people who live in residential aged care facilities. Ralph is passionate about the rights of residents in aged care facilities to live in environments that facilitate engagement with the community. In 2005 he worked on the development of the Sector Development Plan for children in out of home care and in 2004 worked on the Coordinated Care Trials as a research and project officer. Prior to this Ralph was employed as Associate Director, Health at Root Projects Australia (RPA) where he was responsible for undertaking a range of projects, developing strategic and business plans for health and community services. Prior to this Mr Hampson was Manager, Business and Facility Development, for the Aged, Community and Mental Health Division of the Department of Human Services. In this role he was responsible for the overall management of the capital program in that Division, including developing design guidelines and representing the Division on Project Control Groups. In this position he also played a key role in developing the strategic and business plans for the Division. Mr Hampson contributed to statewide program and policy development for mental health services, including child and adolescent mental health services, services to ethnic communities and crisis assessment and treatment services. This included the evaluation of new program and policy initiatives. In his Masters degree Mr Hampson explored the role of fathers in the live of their children. He has undertaken research and consultation in relation to health policy and planning, with a particular emphasis on the impact of health care services on the consumer. He has taught at both masters and undergraduate levels in social policy, provision of health care services, community health services and Social Work practice. In his earlier career Mr Hampson was a clinical Social Worker with children and families. From 1989-1992 he was the Chief Social Worker at the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne responsible for management and operation of a large Department, including staff supervision, financial management, and research and quality programs. From 2008 he has taken up two new roles - Coordinator of the Master of Social Work at Monash University and a new position with JewishCare, a major provider of aged and community services, responsible for Research and Innovation. He also runs a small private consultancy on health policy and planning. His three gorgeous kids Jack, Sally and Tom take up much of the time that is left over!
