The end of the academic year brings us to thinking about 2008 already! This newsletter provides details about a number of opportunities Monash is making available as well as plans for the next two day HDR conference, the great opportunity we have to come together and hear about the exciting research projects HDR students in Social Work undertake!
Next postgraduate research seminar
I am negotiating with QSR to run an intensive NVivo workshop on qualitative analysis on Thursday 31st January. Could those who are interested let me know by October 31st as we need a minimum number to be able to offer this day to you.
We welcome presentations by HDR students; they generate excellent discussion and demonstrate the great breadth of research undertaken by higher degree research students in social work. Students who are due to present (remember, you are required to present your work each year!) let me know please by end October so I can put a programme into place. You can contact me on:

Students who need to do confirmation of candidature please also let me know by October 31st, any supervisors who are aware their students are due to present might like to contact their student.
Students who might like to use the opportunity to spend time on-campus are welcome to stay on after the conference. The Distance Education BSW workshops commence February 4th and go for two weeks, the Honours students are presenting on 8th February. You are very welcome to come to this seminar.
Scholarships: Closing date for applications is 31st October 2007
The Australian Postgraduate Award - APA and the Monash Graduate Scholarships - MGS are now open for application and I urge anyone who is interested to look at the website and consult their supervisor.
Applications
DEST has released the rates for APA awards for 2008:
- $20,007 for full-time students
- $10,710 for part-time students
The MGS awards and Faculty stipends will match this rate.
