Teaching - Plagiarism

All staff and students in the School of Biomedical Sciences should adhere to the university policy on Plagarism and Cheating. This policy defines plagarism and cheating as:

  • Plagiarism – means to take and use another person’s ideas and or manner of expressing them and to pass them off as one’s own by failing to give appropriate acknowledgement.

  • Cheating – means seeking to obtain an unfair advantage in an examination or in other written or practical work required to be submitted or completed by a student for assessment.

Each piece of non-examinable assessment (assignments, practical reports, essay etc) should be accompanied by a coversheet in which the student identifies that they are aware of the University’s plagarism and cheating policy and that they have abided by it. A covering sheet can be downloaded here (rtf format | pdf format).

A flow chart for the procedures to be followed by staff can be found on the Science Faculty teaching website.
