Dr Ashley Bates

Head of Drug Development - GlaxoSmithKline

In his role Dr Bates travels overseas and within Australia to scope out the opportunities that may exist for research collaborations between GlaxoSmithKline and biotechnology companies or universities in the area of drug development.

Rather than specialising in one scientific area, Dr Bates has some knowledge in a number of research areas.

Dr Bates began his career in research and then moved into a more general role. His role requires the skills to identify good research opportunities.

“My job is all about travelling all over the world to see what people overseas are doing, what technologies there are to improve and looking for opportunities to over lap”, he says.
