Network Services Privacy Statement

Collection of Information

It is necessary for Technology Services Group - Southern Regional to collect Information about you in order for us to provide you with university computer accounts, and with any required computer support.  We mainly collect information through a variety of online forms, or through email from you requesting computer support.  In addition to this we have access to a subset of the information contained in SAP (the University's Staff Database).  (The information we have access to from SAP is your name, employee number, contract end-date, and the department you work for.)

Use of Information

The information we collect is used to create and maintain any computer accounts you might require, and to ensure that you have the access to the areas of the computer network that you require for your job.

We may also need to collect information in order to contact you (eg. if you require computer support, or if there is a scheduled network outage in your area).

Incorrect information

If you believe that any information that is being stored is incorrect, and you want it to be corrected, you can contact Technology Services Group - Southern Regional and request that it is changed. In some circumstances, the information that is incorrect may be provided by central University services, and we are unable to directly affect any changes.

Archiving Information

We keep an electronic copy of any forms sent to us. Currently there is no expiry date at which this data is removed.

The information available to us via personnel is removed automatically, once your staff ID number becomes invalid.

Accessing your inforamtion

Should you require a printed copy of any of your information that we have, please feel free to contact us and request it. This information will only be given to you in person.

Cookies

A cookie is a file that a website server gives to a browser the first time a user visits the site. The cookie is sent back to the website each time the user accesses that site. A cookie can be used to keep track of a users preferences for a website, or which parts of the site a user has visited, or visits most often.

Currently we do not use cookies on any of our webpages.

It is possible in the future that we may decide to adopt this or a similar technology, but we have no plans to do so at the present time.

It is recommended that you set your web browser to notify you when it has been asked to accept a cookie, and request confirmation. This allows you to keep track of which sites are sending you cookies.(In Netscape this can be achived by going to Edit->Preferences->Advanced and checking the "warn me before accepting a cookie" box)
