Ruth graduated in diagnostic radiography from RMIT in 1981. Upon qualification she moved into private practice. Wanting to broaden her perspectives early in her career she travelled overseas and worked gaining invaluable experience as a locum radiographer based in London. Upon her return she moved initially into a solo private hospital setting, later transferring into a larger team based private network. During the ensuing years Ruth progressed through the ranks across a range of imaging modalities, positions and roles across both the private then later public field. Due to her extensive experience obtained in the numerous practices, protocols, procedures performed with emerging technology encounter she focuses on this transference in her teaching and academic work. Ruth still maintains currency as a part time senior radiographer within a public hospital network.

Within the Bachelor of Radiography and Medical Imaging Ruth concentrates on the Year One programme. She convenes and teaches into RAD1061 and RAD1012 which are large year one core units that include clinical studies. She also contributes to the research projects and literature reviews offered in year four of the undergraduate course. Previously she has contributed to the professional skills component in year two. Since joining the course initiatives that Ruth has introduced and developed include an Orientation schedule for Y1, professional skills applications into the radiographic laboratory setting as well as preclinical skills assessments known as Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCEs). For several years she was closely involved in Inter Professional Education (IPE) with the Peninsula campus running the communication and team based session. Besides being an early adopter of tablet technology, she is immensely simulation and clinical education focussed.  She represents Monash University as part of the Advancing Clinical Education (ACE) team contributing in their short course delivery every six months.
