Paul graduated from RMIT in diagnostic radiography in 1980 and returned to take up a lecturing position in 1987. He held several senior positions at RMIT over the years including coordinator of the radiography stream of the undergraduate medical radiations degree and course coordinator of the postgraduate diploma ultrasound program. In 2001, he was appointed Head of the Department of Medical Radiations Science with overall responsibility for the management, teaching and research activities in the areas of radiography, radiation therapy and nuclear medicine. In 2002, he created and implemented an online Masters program (with embedded Graduate diploma) in medical ultrasound.

Paul joined Monash University in 2006 as the Ultrasound Coordinator in the Department of Radiography and Medical Imaging. He is currently a member of the Australian institute of Radiography, The Australian Sonographers Association, the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine and a Director with the Australasian Sonographers Accreditation Registry. He has contributed to over 24 papers and presented at national radiography and ultrasound conferences. His research interests are in the areas of radiography, ultrasound and clinical skills assessment.
