Dr Michal E Schneider-KolskySenior Lecturer Email: Michal.Schneider-Kolsky@med.monash.edu.au BSc Monash University 1985 Dr Schneider-Kolsky joined the Department in January 2005 as Senior Lecturer. She heads the research arm of the Department and is in charge of higher degree research student supervision. Within the Bachelor of Radiography and Medical Imaging she convenes RAD4030 Selective Studies in Medical Imaging and is also responsible for teaching the research methods and evidence based practice units of the Master of Advanced Radiographic Practice and Master of Medical Ultrasound. Her research interests include anatomic and functional imaging of breast and lung cancer and the use of ultrasound and MRI in musculo-skeletal imaging. Her recently established laboratory research focuses on the possible adverse effects of obstetric and paediatric ultrasound, especially on fetal organ development and the link with adult onset disease as well as the impact of cranial ultrasound on newborn cognitive function and brain. Supporting these studies are surveys into the workpractices of sonographers performing obstetric and newborn ultrasound examinations and surveys of pregnant womens' knowledge of current ultrasound use during pregnancy. Further, Dr Schneider-Kolsky has research interests in ethical and educational issues of imaging professionals, such as communication hurdles in oncology and obstetrics, the notion of 'fitness to practice' and role extension for imaging practitioners. She currently supervises seven PhD, MPhil and Honours students.
