Dr Michal E Schneider-KolskyDeputy Head of Department Email: Michal.Schneider-Kolsky@monash.edu BSc Monash University 1985 After working as Research Manager at IMED-MIA (Victoria) and Monash Medical Centre, Dept of Medical Oncology, Dr Schneider-Kolsky joined the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences in January 2005 as Senior Lecturer and in 2009, was appointed Deputy Head of the Department. Within the Bachelor of Radiography and Medical Imaging she convenes RAD4070 Research in Medical Imaging and RAD4080 Selected Studies in Medical Imaging and is also responsible for teaching the research methods and evidence based practice units of the Master of Medical Ultrasound (MFM2006R and MFM2006S). Concurrently, she is the Research Coordinator at the department and in 2012 supervises seven PhD and three MPhil students in radiation therapy, nuclear medicine and diagnostic imaging. Her research interests include anatomic and functional imaging of breast and lung cancer using PET and the use of ultrasound and MRI in musculo-skeletal imaging. Her laboratory research focuses on the possible adverse effects of obstetric and paediatric ultrasound, especially the impact of cranial ultrasound on newborn cognitive function and brain. These studies are also underpinned by research into policies and workpractices of sonographers and radiologists.Further, Dr Schneider-Kolsky has research interests in ethical and educational issues of imaging professionals, such as occupational burnout among radiation science professionals, the notion of ‘fitness to practice' and role extension for imaging practitioners. She collaborates with numerous clinical and academic centres across Australia and overseas on these and other projects. Prospective research students can join her existing projects or alternatively, can develop a project to suit their individual interest and requirement.
