Psych: Tamara May

Biography

Tamara completed her undergraduate degrees (BA, BSc) at Melbourne University with majors in English and Cultural Studies, Computer Science, and Meteorology. After working in the IT industry for several years, Tamara decided on a career change and completed a Graduate Diploma in Psychology and then a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology at Monash University. Her 4th year research study examined olfactory functioning in children with high-functioning autism and Asperger’s Disorder, and confirmed her interest in neurodevelopmental disorders. Tamara is currently completing her PhD, The Kids Focus Study, under the supervision of Prof. Kim Cornish and Assoc. Prof. Nicole Rinehart. The Kids Focus study (http://www.med.monash.edu.au/psych/research/teams/dngdl/kidsfocus/) aims to better understand the profiles of females with neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and Fragile X syndrome. The study has a clinical focus, examining how inattentive behaviours and anxiety can impact on academic achievement in both boys and girls with and without ASDs.
