Prato Conference 2011

Working within the forensic paradigm:

Developing effective responses across the health, helping and legal professions

Forthcoming International Conference
Monash University Prato Centre, Tuscany, Italy
12-14 September 2011

The Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science at Monash University Australia invites you to attend this international conference at the Monash University Centre, Prato, Italy. This conference follows from the highly successful "Working with Women Offenders" Conferences in 2005 and 2007, and the "Children and the Law" Conference in 2009, all held in Prato, and convened by Dr Rosemary Sheehan, Department of Social Work, Monash University. This forthcoming conference will give particular attention to forensic work across law, health and helping professions. The focus is on this intersection with work in a range of individual and family matters: in child protection, family welfare, mental health offending, disability and addictions, family violence programmes, juvenile justice, sexual assault centres and related areas.

This international conference will bring together practitioners, policy contributors, advocates and researchers from mental health, welfare, law, criminology, policing and health . This conference will offer considerable opportunity for cross-national dialogue. Keynote speakers, presented papers and roundtable forums, will address the conference aims. The conference will give particular attention to the following themes:

  • Contemporary understandings of forensic policy and practice
  • Care, control and cure: balancing individual and community interests
  • Risk and offending behaviours: effective responses to rehabilitation and recovery.
  • The intersection between mental health, welfare and justice systems
  • The role of law in the forensic paradigm
  • Responding to vulnerable people within the forensic domain

We extend an invitation to you to join us in Prato for what promises to be a great conference. We very much look forward to seeing you there.
