Psych: Honours in Bachelor of Behavioural Neuroscience

The Honours year in Behavioural Neuroscience aims to extend research training in specialised areas of behavioural neuroscience, and to help students acquire sophisticated research skills. Students will graduate with a Bachelor of Behavioural Neuroscience (Hons). It is a course requirement that the research project component of the Honours year has significant ‘Behavioural Neuroscience content’ (students must seek approval of the course coordinator prior to the initiation of the research project).

Honours in the Bachelor of Behavioural Neuroscience is offered to students who have completed the undergraduate BBNSc degree with 70% average or better in 24 credit points of core third year behavioural neuroscience subjects, as well as meet entry requirements for their chosen program. Students wishing to undertake Honours in Behavioural Neuroscience in the School of Psychology and Psychiatry and achieve a 65-69% third year core unit average may be considered on a case by case basis.

Honours programs available to BBNSc students span a wide range of disciplines and specific research areas including Behavioural Neuroscience (offered by the School of Psychology and Psychiatry), Anatomy & Developmental Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychology.

  • Behavioural Neuroscience Honours (BNS4100) is a 4th year program offered by the School of Psychology and Psychiatry that is designed to provide specialised and advanced research training in behavioural neuroscience.
  • Psychology Honours is also offered by the School of Psychology and Psychiatry and is a requirement  for students intending to gain registration as a practicing psychologist. To be eligible for entry, BBNSc students must have successfully completed the APAC-accredited sequence in Psychology, with a minimum average of 70% or better in the third-year level psychology units.
  • Biochemistry (BCH4100), Genetics (GEN4100), Pharmacology (PHA4100), Physiology (PHY4100), and  Anatomy & Developmental Biology. To be eligible for entry, students must have completed the discipline appropriate major sequence in the BBNSc degree, as well as meet entry requirements for the specific program.
