Honours Application Procedure for 2010 - Department of Physiology

Eligibility

To be eligible for entry into the Honours year you need to obtain a distinction grade average (70 per cent), or above, in 24 points of studies in the relevant units at level three.  These 24 points will normally include at least 18 points of units in the field of study in which you wish to complete Honours. Therefore, to be eligible for Honours in Physiology  you need to have completed at least three third year Physiology units (18 points).  
 
Students who have obtained an average of 65 to 69 per cent in their main third-year sequence may also be eligible for consideration if they have also obtained an average of at least 65 per cent in their remaining level-three units.  In this situation, your application needs to be supported by the Head of Department.

Application Procedures

Applying for Honours will involve the following steps:

Step 1

Take time to read through the Department of Physiology Honours Projects 2010 booklet (pdf 685 kb). This booklet provides information about each research topic that is being offered by the Department and the relevant Supervisors.

Step 2

Once you have looked through the Project Booklet it is important that you talk to the relevant contact person for the projects that interest you. This is the best way for you to obtain further information and also assist in familiarising yourself with members of the Department who may be key figures in your Honours Year.

Step 3

Complete and return the Faculty of Science Application Form (Word .doc 173 kb) to the Faculty. The Closing Date for applications is Friday 20^th November 2009.

Step 4

Having decided on a few topics of interest the final stage in the application procedure for you is to complete and return the Department of Physiology Honours Project Application Form (Word .doc 41 kb)  to Rohan Caldwell. This form can also be obtained from the Blackboard sites of second semester third year units. Note that this form is NOT an application for admission to Honours. It is used by the Department to ensure that students are allocated to the appropriate projects of their choice. The deadline for submission of this form is Friday 27^th November.

Step 5 

The Faculty of Science will send letters of offer and details of enrolment procedures, etc to approved applicants.
