Within the Department of Physiology, the central and peripheral nervous systems are studied at a range of levels using diverse techniques including; state of the art molecular biology approaches, synaptic interactions and ion channel activity using brain slice electrophysiology and imaging, transsynaptic viral tracers, and integrative systems neurophysiology involving fetal and adult animals.
The Cellular Neurophysiology Platform - Monash Node, based in the Department of Physiology, is one of the Platform technologies within Neurosciences Victoria and the National Neuroscience Facility. This Platform provides state-of-the-art equipment and expertise for cellular neurophysiology studies, with the main emphasis on cellular and tissue electrophysiology and imaging techniques.
