Physiology is a large and leading research Department not only within Monash University, but also in terms of Physiology Departments nationally and internationally. Research within the Department ranges from studies at the molecular/protein level, through cellular and tissue research, to whole-animal including human physiology.
Main research areas in the Physiology Department
These research areas involve very active research programs by members of the academic teaching staff as well as including a large contribution by academic research-only staff funded by external sources. As part of its research effort the Department trains each year over 40 PhD and Masters students, several tens of Honours students, and various undergraduate students involved in 3rd year projects and summer vacation scholarships. Members of the Department have major collaborations involving local, interstate and international research groups.
