Professor Els Meeusen obtained her first degree in Biology at the University of Ghent, Belgium. She worked for two years as an Associate Expert for the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation in Uruguay, before embarking on a PhD at the University of Cambridge, UK. In 1983, she emigrated to Australia and was an active researcher at the University of Melbourne for the next 22 years, the last 5 years as Director of the Centre for Animal Biotechnology. In January 2006, she was appointed Professor in the Department of Physiology at Monash University, where she will continue her efforts to integrate a whole body approach to science into practical applications for the biotechnology and animal and human health industries.
