PhD Students

Slade, S Exercise for chronic low back pain. The project aims are to compare effects of strengthening exercises to a movement program for non-specific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP) and to determine program features and ingredients that are important for successful outcomes. Exercise is the most promising therapy for CLBP, but little is known about the type of exercise that should be recommended. This work will advance exercise prescription for CLBP by investigating and testing the features of exercise programs that are associated with successful outcomes.

Hodgson, C Lung Recruitment Manoeuvres in Intensive Care Patients. The research aims are to investigate the safety and effects of recruitment maneuvers in mechanically ventilated and spontaneously breathing patients.Secondary aims are to identify responder characteristics and determine important ingredients of recruitment maneuvers Co supervisors David Tuxen, Anne Holland

Hill, J Factors predictive of first incidence of low back pain. The project  aims to determine what is currently known about predictors of first incidence of back pain in children and to test the accuracy of reported predictors in a cross sectional and longitudinal study of schiool children

Dalton, M The development of an instrument for assessing competence in physiotherapy practice. The aim of this project is to develop and test a competency based assessment instrument, the Assessment of Physiotherapy Practice  (APP), to evaluate physiotherapy students’ performance in the workplace
Co supervisors Megan Davidson, Natalie de Morton

Monk, M The development of an instrument for assessing mobility in dogs
