Faculty Postgraduate Excellence Award

Overview of the award

The Faculty Postgraduate Excellence Award is a ‘top up' award offered to the top 10 new scholarship recipients who have demonstrated outstanding academic merit in the most recent end-of-year Monash University Postgraduate Research Scholarship Round.

 Nomination procedure

It is not possible to apply for  this award. Eligible applicants will be automatically considered.

 Benefits

The Faculty Postgraduate Excellence Award provides a $5000 annual ‘top-up' to the recipient's APA (or equivalent, including NHMRC and Cancer Council Victoria scholarships).

 Duration

Three (3) years for doctoral candidates and 18 months for masters by research candidates. The duration will be reduced by any periods of prior study undertaken towards the degree (if applicable).

 Funding arrangements

The award is fully funded by the Faculty.

 Current conditions of award

 Extension

Awardees are eligible to apply for a maximum extension of up to six (6) months if both the Faculty and the academic unit are agreeable and if funding is available. An extension will normally only be approved where research has been delayed by circumstances beyond the candidate's control and where such delays could not have been reasonably anticipated at the commencement of candidature. The grounds for an extension must be related to study and not of a personal nature.
